Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we are asked most often, by topic. Is your question not listed? Call or email us.
Registration
- Yes. For diagnostics and treatment, you need a referral letter from your GP (general practitioner) or medical specialist. This allows your health insurer to reimburse the costs. Without a referral letter, we cannot process your registration.
- Registration always goes through a referral. Your GP or practitioner sends the referral letter to us securely through ZorgDomein, the secure referral system used in Dutch healthcare. As soon as we have received it, we will contact you.
- Yes, in that case you can also come to us for a (re)assessment or treatment. You do need a referral.
- No, we focus on adults aged 18 and over. For children and young people, we recommend care that specialises in youth.
- In Dutch or English.
Waiting time
- That depends on your health insurer: 30 days with Achmea and ONVZ, 90 days with all other health insurers (October 2026). For VGZ, we are not accepting new patients up to and including 31 December 2026.
- You can ask to be placed on a reserve list. If an appointment is cancelled, you may be able to come in sooner.
- No. If the diagnosis is made, your treatment starts straight away.
Costs
- If your health insurer has a contract with us, you only pay your deductible (eigen risico), insofar as it has not yet been used. Without a contract, you also pay a one-off personal contribution of €250. Please note: a payment agreement, under which we submit claims directly to your health insurer, is not a contract. In that case, too, you pay the one-off personal contribution.
- An invoice for your claim always shows the full amount of the care provided. That is not what you pay yourself.
- No. They are included in the diagnostic pathway.
- If you do not cancel an appointment, or cancel it less than 24 hours in advance, we charge €100. Your health insurer does not reimburse this.
- Medication is usually (partly) reimbursed under basic health insurance. Depending on the medicine, a statutory personal contribution may apply, up to a maximum of €250 per calendar year. You pay this at the pharmacy, not to us. Ask your health insurer whether your supplementary insurance covers these costs. For some medicines, such as Tentin and Elvanse, the manufacturer has a refund scheme. See terugbetaalregeling.nl (in Dutch) (opens in a new window).
- Invoices can come from different parties, depending on the care and on the reimbursement from your insurer. Think of your medication, or consultations outside your treatment. If you are unsure about an invoice, please contact us.
- Yes. You can also pay the full costs of diagnostics and treatment yourself. We then charge the rates set by the Dutch Healthcare Authority, NZa (in Dutch) (opens in a new window). Your health insurer does not reimburse these costs.
- In that case you pay the full costs of diagnostics and treatment yourself. You submit the invoice to your foreign insurer yourself.
- Care costs may be tax-deductible under certain conditions. For the conditions, see the Belastingdienst, the Dutch Tax Administration (in Dutch) (opens in a new window).
The assessment
- No. The self-test gives an indication. Only a full assessment can show whether you have ADHD.
- You do not need to study: there are no right or wrong answers. It does help to think about your symptoms, now and in your childhood, and to ask someone close to you to complete the questionnaire.
- Then a brother, sister or someone else close to you who knew you as a child may also complete the questionnaire. There is also a short questionnaire for someone who knows you well now. Discuss with us what is possible in your situation.
- We specialise in ADHD in adults and do not carry out extensive assessments for other psychiatric conditions. We do, however, check whether your symptoms might have another cause.
Treatment and medication
- The entire care pathway, from assessment to completion, takes four to six months on average.
- No. Medication is never compulsory. You decide for yourself. A trial period is possible and you can stop at any time in consultation.
- Yes. Partners and family members are welcome at psychoeducation.
- Yes, if you are on a stable dose and have no side effects that affect driving. Do not drive while your medication is being adjusted or after a change in dose.
- At completion, we inform your GP which medication has been set up. In consultation, your GP can then take care of your repeat prescriptions.
- Yes. Within six months of completion, we can reopen your treatment without a new referral.
